NBCU to Launch Orig. Series on Break.com
Mike Shields
NBC Universal's digital studios unit is planning to launch an original series on the male-aimed funny video hub Break.com.
The new show, currently titled Breakers, is aimed squarely at the young male crowd that frequently gravitates to viral video clips. While details are few at this point, the ad-supported show will feature beautiful women finding different ways to break various objects.
NBCU has had success in the past producing original, funny video content for the Web that becomes viral in nature. Last year, NBCU Digital Studios churned out the popular The Easter Bunny Hates You, which has garnered over a million views on YouTube. The company is betting that its strategy of producing professional, ad supported viral clips will help it stand out among competitors. "The series will not only deliver instant entertainment gratification to its viewers, but will also continue to demonstrate the value of professionally produced content for digital platforms," said George Kliavkoff, chief digital officer of NBC Universal.
